Behind the smile that millions of people know is a story marked by unanswered questions, fleeting encounters and a personal search that left deep footprints. At 55, this renowned artist decided to share one of the most intimate chapters of her life: the non-existent relationship with her biological father and the only time she managed to see him face to face.
An encounter he never forgot
For much of his childhood and youth, the father figure was a constant absence. However, fate wanted both of them to cross paths when she was around 20 years old.
It happened during a wedding in his hometown. There were no hugs, conversations or explanations. Just a look that was forever engraved in his memory.
The artist remembers that man as a person of imposing presence, dire hair and an intense look that immediately seemed familiar. What struck him the most was discovering the enormous resemblance between the eyes of both, a coincidence impossible to ignore.
Despite the emotional force of that instant, the encounter did not become a relationship. Each one went on his way and the bond was limited to that brief moment full of meaning.
An absence that marked his life
Growing up without her father’s presence left a mark that accompanied her for years. Although he managed to build a successful career and earn the affection of the public, there was always a natural curiosity to know better his own origins.
Over time he discovered that, from a distance, that man somehow followed his trajectory. He knew of his academic achievements and also of the successes he was achieving as an artist.
However, that interest never translated into true closeness. Communication never came and words that could have built a bridge between the two were left unpronounced.
