3. The Silent Alliance
Julian stopped dead. The frantic, tragic hero persona vanished in a microsecond.
His tears stopped. The sorrow on his face evaporated, replaced instantly by a flash of genuine, explosive, murderous rage at being challenged in front of his board of directors.
“Get out of my way,” Julian snarled, his voice dropping into the low, dangerous, demonic register he usually reserved for our “long talks” at home. The mask had slipped, just for a second. “My wife is having a severe medical emergency! Move!”
“I know she is,” the man said calmly. He didn’t budge an inch. He didn’t look intimidated by the billionaire CEO holding his paralyzed wife.
The man reached into the breast pocket of his tailored suit jacket. He pulled out a heavy, leather-bound credential wallet and flipped it open, displaying a gleaming silver badge and a hospital identification card.
