“At a motel?”
He explained that he did not want the meeting at home, where Noah could overhear a frightening or confusing conversation.
The anger inside me remained, but it began changing into something more focused.
We no longer had the luxury of wasting time on blame.
We needed a plan.
Part 3: No More Secrets
I turned toward Mr. Hollis.
“Arrange the contact with Noah’s sister. I want to be present for every conversation.”
He nodded.
“No summaries afterward,” I continued. “No decisions without me.”
“Understood.”
Then I faced Logan.
“Noah is our son. Whatever happens next, we handle it together. No more hidden calls, private meetings, or motel rooms.”
Christianity
His eyes filled with tears.
“I promise.”
My mother tried to apologize again, but I stopped her.
I did not need another explanation. I needed everyone to understand that protecting me did not mean removing me from my own family’s crisis.
They had thought they were sparing me from fear.
Instead, they had allowed me to believe the worst about them and denied me the chance to fight beside my son.
I gathered Noah’s medical documents and held them against my chest.
“Let’s go home,” I said. “We have work to do.”
We left the motel together.
The drive home was quiet, but different from the silence before. There were no longer secrets sitting between us.
When I entered the house, Noah was waiting on the couch with Sarah beside him.
He looked directly at me.
“Was it Dad and Grandma?”
“Yes.”
His face fell.
“But it wasn’t what you thought.”
Logan sat beside him and explained that they had been meeting with an investigator because his doctors needed more information about his biological family.
