My Daughter-in-Law Was Betraying My Son—But He Refused to Believe Me Until I Showed Him the Truth – Happy PART 3

For the first time since entering the room, my son stood with certainty.

He looked wounded, but no longer confused.

“Come on, Mom.”

I followed him into the hallway.

Behind us, Victoria called his name.

He did not turn around.

Part Six: What the Truth Gave Back

Neither of us spoke until the elevator doors closed.

Ethan leaned against the wall and released a long, unsteady breath.

His face looked pale.

“I feel like such an idiot.”

“You aren’t an idiot.”

“I ignored everything.”

“You trusted the woman you loved.”

“I pushed Owen out of my life because of her.”

“You believed you were protecting your marriage.”

He looked at me.

“I should have listened.”

“Perhaps,” I said gently. “But Victoria knew how much you loved her, and she used that love to silence every doubt. That does not make you foolish. It makes you human.”

The elevator continued downward.

For a few seconds, Ethan stared at the floor.

Then he said, “I’m sorry I didn’t believe you.”

I placed my hand on his arm.

“You needed proof. I understood that.”

“No, you were afraid I would choose her over you.”

I did not answer.

The truth was visible in my face.

His eyes filled with regret.

“I’m sorry for that too.”

When we stepped outside, the evening air felt cool against my skin.

People moved along the sidewalk, cars passed, and the city continued as though nothing extraordinary had happened.

But for Ethan, an entire future had just disappeared.

He stood beside the hotel entrance, looking lost.

Then he pulled out his phone.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

He scrolled through his contacts.

“Calling someone I should have called a long time ago.”
