My name is Daniel Mercer. For most people, I’m just a retired military veteran living a quiet life in Illinois. I spend my days fixing things around the house, drinking too much coffee, and calling my daughter, Lily, more often than she thinks is necessary.

She’s nineteen years old—a sophomore at Bradley University and the brightest thing in my life.
