I Gave Birth and Brought My Baby to Meet the Grandpa Who Raised Me for the First Time – The Moment He Saw Her Face, He Burst Into Tears PART 2

—

Three months later, I stood in my driveway watching Caleb struggle with Nora’s car seat.

“You can ask,” I said.

“Give me one more.”

He tried again.

This time, the buckle clicked into place.

He looked up at me.

“Six?”

“Six. And if anything changes, you call. You don’t decide for both of us.”

“I know.”

I handed him the diaper bag.

There were no secrets left.

Caleb had moved out of William’s house.

The trust was finally his.

But decisions involving Nora belonged to both of us.

Later, I finally read the letters my mother had written to Grandpa.

“I thought keeping that family away was protecting you,” he admitted, wiping his eyes. “I never gave Caleb a chance to prove he wasn’t his father.”

That evening, Caleb brought Nora home exactly at six.

I watched him carry her to my door.

He had not won me back.

Maybe someday he would.

Maybe he wouldn’t.

But for the first time, that decision belonged to me.

As I rocked Nora to sleep that night, I realized there were no more secrets for someone else to decide I wasn’t ready to hear.

I was the first woman in my family to hear the whole story—

and decide for myself who got to stay.
